Breeder’s Award Program (BAP)

The Breeder’s Award Program (BAP) is designed to promote friendly competition and encourage all hobbyists to spawn their aquatic animals and share with others alike. It is open to any member of the SMAS. Participants accumulate points for each species they are able to reproduce successfully. Points are awarded from five to twenty-five points based on difficulty of species. Species can only be turned in once unless on CARES List then species can be turned in once per year.  Requirements for turning BAP in are as follows:

  • Fry must be at least 1” in size unless species is dwarf species then 3/4” size is acceptable.

  • Minimum of six fry required for species five to fifteen points and minimum of three fry for twenty and twenty-five point species.

  • Once the spawn is turned in it is property of the Southeastern Michigan Aquarium Society and will be auctioned off at the monthly meeting.  If the species sells for $5 or less all proceeds go back to the breeder.  Any BAP sold for over $5 the club takes $1 and remaining proceeds go to the breeder.

A certificate is awarded for each species spawned and a plaque is awarded for 100 points and then a plate for every hundred points to be added to existing plaque until 1200 points is reached.  A Junior Master Breeders plaque is awarded at 500 points and a Master Breeder plaque at 1000 points.  In addition yearly awards are given for the following:
